After years of fertility struggles and an IVF loss, adoption brought us the greatest gift of our lives—our daughter, Angha. The journey tested our patience and faith, but the moment we met her, we knew she was meant to be ours. Today, our home is filled with love, joy, and gratitude.

As an IVF counsellor and life coach, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside many families navigating the emotional terrain of fertility and parenthood. But some stories leave an indelible mark—stories that remind us of the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of love.

This National Adoption Awareness Month, I’m honoured to share the deeply moving journey of my client, Himanshu Jain, and her husband, Naveen—a story of struggle, surrender, and the soul-deep joy of becoming parents to their daughter, Angha.

A Quiet Storm: Himanshu’s Adoption Journey Begins

Himanshu’s journey began with a love marriage in 2010, followed by a decision to delay parenthood. But when they began trying, month after month passed in disappointment. Medical tests revealed challenges on her husband’s side—an admission that was met with denial and resistance. For years, Himanshu bore the emotional weight of wanting a child while navigating societal expectations, family pressures, and a partner who wasn’t ready to face the truth.

She tried everything—acupuncture, homoeopathy, rituals, dietary changes, and countless doctors across Jaipur and Mumbai. Yet, nothing worked. Through it all, her practice of Buddhism became her anchor, helping her cultivate inner calm amidst the chaos.

IVF and the Fragility of Hope

In 2021, after years of longing, Himanshu conceived through IVF on the very first attempt—a fleeting moment of joy. But on New Year’s Eve, her world shattered: the baby’s heartbeat was gone. In that silence, a deeper calling emerged. She knew her path to motherhood would take a different, beautiful turn—through adoption.

The Adoption Awakening

Himanshu spent a year soul-searching. Could she love a child not born from her body? Was it possible to be a mother in every sense? Through prayer, reflection, and unwavering self-honesty, she found her answer: “A mother is a mother, no matter how the child comes into her life.”

After registering with CARA, India’s central adoption authority, the long bureaucratic journey began. There were delays, re-registrations, and emotional setbacks. Her clarity was tested when her in-laws suggested adopting a relative’s newborn for a “blood relation.” But Himanshu stood firm—she wanted to adopt, not substitute. Waiting for a baby girl aged 0–2 years was her choice, despite being advised to opt for an older child due to her age. Her conviction never wavered.

A Soul Connection: Meeting Angha

In March 2023, Himanshu received a photo of a baby girl from Sangli. Her name was Angha. The moment she saw her, something shifted. “She chose us,” Himanshu told me, eyes brimming with tears. “She didn’t cry even once when we held her. A warm smile lit up her face. It was as if she had been waiting for us.”

On October 11, 2023, Angha came home. From day one, she embraced her new parents with warmth and trust. She called Himanshu ‘Mama’ effortlessly, dissolving every lingering doubt. ‘She nurtured me more than I nurtured her,’ Himanshu said. ‘Becoming a mother in the truest sense—that’s what Angha gave me.

A Message for All: Celebrating Adoption and Love

Today, Angha is the heartbeat of their home. Her presence has softened hearts, bridged gaps, and transformed relationships—even with family members who once resisted the idea of adoption.

Himanshu’s story is not just about becoming a mother—it’s about becoming herself. Listening to the quiet wisdom within, even when the world is loud with opinions, was her greatest strength. Redefining parenthood beyond biology, she embraced the sacred bond that forms when love meets destiny.
